Systems Reading Group

A biweekly reading group focused on the internals of computer systems -- operating systems, databases, compilers, distributed systems, performance, optimization techniques and everything in between. Each session someone presents a paper, a project, or about a conference talk. Open to everyone, regardless of experience. Managed by Mukesh, Saket and folks at HAM ARC @ NIT Warangal.

Systems programming is a way of modelling software development.
It's not about a category of what you are working on, it's a way of looking at the problem.
An excellent systems programmer fully understands the systems involved.

What we explore

  • Programming languages: compilers, parsers, interpreters, type systems, developer tooling
  • Operating systems: kernels, schedulers, device drivers, filesystems, eBPF
  • Distributed systems: consensus protocols, replication, consistency models, gossip protocols
  • Databases: query engines, transaction processing, storage formats, indexing
  • Performance: SIMD, hardware acceleration, profiling, parallelism
  • Graphics programming: shaders, ray tracing, GPU programming, game engines
  • Virtualization: hypervisors, emulators, microVMs, container runtimes
  • Security: sandboxing, cryptographic protocols, exploit development, fuzzing
  • Machine learning systems: training infrastructure, inference engines, model serving
